TIMOTHY WAYNE GREENE

THE MAN BEHIND T.W.G. CIGAR COMPANY

Tim Greene didn't set out to become a cigar maker when his craft first started in 2017.

He loves the flavor. He loves the aroma. But what stays with him is something bigger: the quiet a cigar creates.

It gives him a chance to slow down, have a deep conversation, and build a relationship.

The experience of smoking a quality cigar impacts the way Tim looks at cigars.

THE CIGAR THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

During COVID, Tim's business changed dramatically. On March 3, 2020, he received a call that took away roughly 95% of his personal training business clients.

With more time on his hands, he began putting even more attention into cigars.

One day, he opened a boutique cigar that was completely plugged. It was an expensive cigar and his funds were limited. So Instead of throwing it away, Tim took it apart.

He opened the cigar piece by piece, examined the construction, worked with the filler, rebuilt it, and re-wrapped it.

That experience sparked an idea:

What if he could change the construction himself?

That question pushed Tim deeper into making his own cigars.

CURIOUS ENOUGH TO TAKE THEM APART

Tim didn't learn to roll cigars in a classroom.

YouTube taught him.

He watched as many cigar-making videos as he could find. He studied how people handled tobacco and tried to mimic what they were doing.

But what really captured him was the craftsmanship.

He became fascinated by how many leaves belong in a cigar, how to feel when a bunch is ready to be rolled, and how the final wrapper transforms everything that came before it.

For Tim, rolling a cigar isn't simply a process.

It's an art you can feel in your hands.

FROM PASSION TO building T.W.G. cigar company

Friends and family began encouraging Tim to take his cigars beyond a passion project.

They liked the blends.

They liked the bands he designed.

And they liked the story behind what he was making.

So Tim decided to turn his hobby into a company with the vision of growing his own tobacco and using his own Fresno-grown blends to create the best cigars on the market.

A CRAFTSMAN'S EYE FOR TOBACCO

Tim's approach starts long before a cigar is rolled.

When he selects tobacco, he pays attention to the smell, texture, thickness, color, fermentation, curing, and overall condition of the leaf.

But one question matters more than anything else:

Where was it grown?

Tim believes the region—and especially the soil—plays a major role in the character of the tobacco.

That is why he thinks about tobacco differently than someone simply choosing ingredients from a shelf.

He looks at the leaf.

He feels it. He smells it. He studies its construction. And he thinks about where it came from.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT CIGAR?

For Tim, a great cigar has the ability to make you stop.

The world is full of things designed to grab your attention—bright lights, loud sounds, constant distractions.

A really good cigar can do something completely different.

You take a puff, look down at the cigar, notice the band, start examining the construction, and suddenly your attention is completely there.

Good construction.
Even airflow.
A satisfying hand and mouth feel.
An inviting aroma.
A cigar that makes you stop and pay attention.

That's when Tim knows he's made a good cigar.

MORE THAN A CIGAR

Tim believes the cigar is only part of the experience.

The other part is what happens around it.

A conversation.

A relationship.

A moment when people slow down.

That's why Tim doesn't want T.W.G. Cigar Company to simply be known for making cigars.

He wants people to experience the craft, meet the person behind it, and understand what goes into making something by hand.

Whether he's rolling at an event, creating a custom cigar, selecting tobacco, or working on his next idea, Tim is still doing what started this whole journey:

learning, making, and working with tobacco by hand.

For Tim, that's what T.W.G. is ultimately about:

Good cigars. Better conversations.
